Eastern Iowa’s Entertainment Hub
The Alliant Energy PowerHouse is a complex in downtown Cedar Rapids consisting of an arena, convention center, and 267-room hotel with two attached parking structures (1,300 car capacity). It stands as Eastern Iowa’s premier venue for live entertainment, boasting a versatile space that accommodates a diverse array of events. Managed by VenuWorks for two decades, this 9,000-seat multi-use arena hosts top-tier entertainment, including national concerts, family shows, professional arena football and soccer, college and high school sports, rodeos, and community events. Renovated in 2013 with the addition of a convention center, the venue features an adjoining 80,000 sq. ft. of meeting, banquet, and convention spaces. These areas can function independently or in tandem with the arena, offering flexibility for a wide variety of events.

Robert Thomas serves as the Executive Director for VenuWorks of Cedar Rapids, overseeing the Alliant Energy PowerHouse, Paramount Theatre, McGrath Amphitheatre, and ImOn Ice Arena. With over 18 years of experience in the music and venue management industry, Robert brings a wealth of expertise in talent buying, strategic growth, and operational excellence. He is dedicated to creating vibrant, fan-friendly environments and enriching the community through outstanding entertainment. Robert’s commitment to partnership and innovation ensures that Cedar Rapids’ venues will continue to thrive as premier destinations for world-class events.

Robert held key leadership roles at TempleLive, including President and Vice President of Programming & Talent Buying. There, he successfully grew the company to eight-figure revenue with sustained year-over-year growth, expanded operations into multiple markets, and led venue teams to deliver exceptional guest experiences. His career achievements include booking high-profile acts across a variety of genres and revitalizing venues into top touring destinations, demonstrating his results-driven approach and passion for building strong, inclusive event communities.
