The VenuWorks-managed ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids is proud to announce a new partnership with the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) for a month-long food drive aimed at combating hunger in Eastern Iowa. Throughout November, the arena will serve as a collection point for non-perishable food items, offering a discount on public skate admission to encourage community participation.
In an effort to support local families, anyone who brings at least one non-perishable food item to a public skate session at ImOn Ice will receive $2.00 off their admission. The initiative runs for the entire month of November, providing a simple way for residents to contribute to a critical cause while enjoying a favorite local pastime.
This partnership addresses a significant need within the community. HACAP, an organization serving the region since 1965, reports that 53,730 neighbors in the area face food insecurity. This equates to approximately one in nine adults and one in six children who may not know where their next meal is coming from. Community-driven food drives are essential to stocking the HACAP Food Reservoir and ensuring that local families have access to nutritious food.
The food drive coincides with a major milestone for ImOn Ice, which is celebrating 25 years of service to the Cedar Rapids community. The arena has long been a hub for ice sports and family entertainment, housing the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, the Eastern Iowa Figure Skating Club, and numerous other local clubs and events.
“ImOn Ice is proud to celebrate 25 years in Cedar Rapids by giving back to the community that has supported us for so long,” said Tonya Frost, General Manager of ImOn Ice Cedar Rapids. “We believe in the power of our community and the importance of helping those in need. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.”
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to community well-being and highlights the role local venues can play in supporting vital social programs. All donations collected during the November food drive will directly benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir and its mission to build stronger, more resilient communities.
Donations will be accepted during public skate sessions at the ImOn Ice Arena, located at 1100 Rockford Road SW, Cedar Rapids. Community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, and cereal to help make a positive impact this holiday season.
