Tom Richter brings over three decades of expertise in venue management, event programming, and leadership to his role as Regional Vice President at VenuWorks. Tom provides strategic direction to multiple venues under VenuWorks management, serving as the primary corporate liaison between clients and venue management teams. His collaborative approach ensures customized solutions that enhance events, optimize venue utilization, and foster community engagement.
Prior to his current role, Tom served as the Executive Director of the Swiftel Center in Brookings, SD, for 20 years. Under his leadership, the Swiftel Center flourished, hosting top-tier music artists, prestigious sports tournaments, and large-scale equestrian and livestock shows. His reputation for innovative and impactful programming helped position the center as a premier event destination.
Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education (1988) and a master’s degree in counseling and human resource development (1990) from South Dakota State University (SDSU). During his time at SDSU, Tom’s passion for rodeo shone through as a member of the SDSU Rodeo Team and as president of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. He later became an instructor in the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences and served as SDSU Rodeo Coach from 1988 to 1998.
An accomplished rodeo professional, Tom competed as a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) from 1987 to 2001 and has served as the Badlands Circuit President of the PRCA since 1994. Tom’s dedication to building thriving communities through exceptional events, strategic leadership, and strong client relationships makes him a trusted partner in unlocking the potential of every venue he supports.
